Feature Meeting: Wetherby
2.15: wetherbyracing.co.uk Novices’ Hurdle: Kicking things off for me on Thursday will be the 2.15 at Wetherby which is a novice hurdle that’s ridden over two miles and three and a half furlongs. This looks like a good opportunity for Magical King who heads the betting for Stuart Edmunds and Fergus Gillard. He’s been contesting some hot novice and maiden events this term and despite not winning, he’s been running with credit. These are calmer waters for him and he should be going very close. Magical King – 11/10 (Win) (NAP)
2.50: racingtv.com Handicap Chase: Next up is the 2.50 which is a handicap chase that’s contested over a distance of three miles. I’m taking a chance on Coolmoyne here for Simon Waugh and John Kington. He’s a longstanding maiden but has run with a lot of credit in several of his races and comes into the race on a tumbling mark with a low weight. This doesn’t look like a strong affair and he could well break his duck. Coolmoyne – 11/2 (Each-Way)
4.00: Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Handicap Chase: My third selection of the afternoon comes in the 4.00 which is another handicap chase, this time over two miles and three and a half furlongs. I like Placenet here who represents David Pipe and Gearoid Harney who takes off seven pounds. He was a listed winner in France and will contest this off a mark which he should be competitive off taking the rider’s claim into consideration. The drop down in trip could well be what he needs also. Placenet – 9/2 (Win)
4.35: Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide Handicap Hurdle: Signing me off for the afternoon is the 4.35 which is handicap hurdle action over two miles and three and a half furlongs. I’m with Uncle Bert here for the team of Nigel Twiston-Davies and James Turner who takes off seven pounds. He’s effectively back down to his last winning mark here taking Turner’s seven pounds into consideration, he was four lengths second to highly progressive Lowry’s Bar last time out, which wasn’t a bad run at all, and I think he can go well here. Uncle Bert – 11/2 (Each-Way)
