Welcome aboard to this Friday’s ‘Midweek Preview’ where I’ve got four selections to share with you all from Newmarket on the second day of the Cambridgeshire Meeting. If you are punting on said selections, make sure to do so in a responsible manner and enjoy the racing.
1.50: Rosemary Stakes: The 1.50 is what kicks off at Newmarket on Friday which is the Listed Rosemary Stakes over a mile for the fillies & mares. I’m siding with the Godolphin runner Silver Lady here who’s currently a 5/1 chance for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. She was a close third within listed company at York last time out, but she pulled too hard that day and the addition of a hood could well sort that issue out. She’s proven over the course and distance as she won here on debut, and think she has a lot more to give. Silver Lady – 11/2 (Each-Way)
2.25: Princess Royal Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Stakes: Next up it’s the 2:25 which is Group 3 action in the Dubai Stakes over a mile and four furlongs. This is another contest for fillies & mares and in this particular contest, it’s Sea Theme for me for the team of William Haggas and Tom Marquand. She’s been improving in impressive style with her most recent success coming in the listed Galtres Stakes at York back in August. It’s likely that she’ll come on again from that run here and if that is the case she’s got every chance of briding the gap on ratings here with some of her rivals. Sea Theme – 5/1 (Each-Way)
3.00: Rockfel Stakes: It’s the Rockfel Stakes at 3:00 which is Group 2 action for the fillies and we’ve got a competitive renewal with lots of potential quality on show. I’m taking a chance on Carla’s Way who’s currently trading at a best price of 11/2 for the Crisfords and James Doyle. She made a big impression on her debut when beating the smart Star Of Mystery at Doncaster, and went off favourite for the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot where she didn’t perform. However, she bounced back to form when second in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood last time behind the very smart Darnation. That’s some of the best form on offer in the race and at the prices, she’ll be the on for me. Carla’s Way – 11/2 (Each-Way)
3.35: Dubai Joel Stakes: The feature race of the day is the Dubai Joel Stakes at 3:35 and this is more Group 2 action this time for the colts and geldings. I’ve decided to side with Mighty Ulysses here for Oisin Murphy and John & Thady Gosden. He progressed from a slightly underwhelming reappearance to a dead-heat victory in a Group 3 at Salisbury last time out and he looks as though he could have more progression in him as a four-year-old. He’s also a course and distance winner which is often a significant positive at this track, 5/1 looks a decent price and it would be no surprise to see a bold effort. Mighty Ulysses – 5/1 (Each-Way)
