Ulster National Day
ALL ABOUT JOE @ 2/1 – 1:40 (Maiden Hurdle)
All About Joe arrives here as a maiden after three outings, he got the stewards attention on his first outing when a never nearer fifth and didn’t progress when sixth the time after. On his most recent outing, however, he ran a blinding race when second behind a smart sort of Henry de Bromhead’s the last day and now back down in grade here if turning up in the form of that effort, he should be bang there.
Main Danger:
BARNAVIDDAUN
Solid efforts in maiden hurdles and bumpers, every chance of going close once more here the Mullins duo.
THE VERY MAN @ 15/8 – 2:10 (Hurdle)
Gordon Elliott’s six-year-old is a consistent sort over hurdles and has some pretty solid form to his name. Most notably, his second-place effort at Navan on his penultimate outing behind the useful Francin who has since gone on to give it a notable boost. The Very Man got his head in front himself the last day at Naas and arrives here a leading contender once again.
Main Danger:
MOMUS
Eleven raced maiden who also sports the Gigginstown silks, albeit for Noel Meade. Unfortunate not to win the last day and likely to throw down a serious effort once again.
ODDS OR EVENS @ 13/2 (Each Way) – 2:40 (Handicap Hurdle)
Odds Or Evens certainly hasn’t set the world alight yet for Tony Martin, however, he’s certainly one of the least exposed in the field and has a handy seven pound claimer on his back. He was last seen when finishing a decent third out of ten in a handicap chase at Navan earlier in the month, and if building on that here now back over hurdles he’s every chance of a good showing.
Main Danger:
BREAD AND BUTTER
Looks a typical one for Gavin Cromwell in a handicap, finished second last time at Gowran when not beaten far and there’s likely more to come.
IFYOUCATCHMENOW @ 4/1 – 3:10 (Ulster National Handicap Chase)
Willie Mullins’ seven-year-old Ifyoucatchmenow rallied to get up in a Grand National Trial at Punchestown the last day beating Agusta Gold by a head. She’s taken a while to show her best form, however, still unexposed that win the last day could well propel her to the next level for her powerful connections. If getting a clear round she’s a massive player here.
Main Danger:
CHEB DE KERVINIOU
Gordon Elliott trained ten-year-old who has ran four very solid races in hot handicaps since joining this top yard from France. This is another tough assignment but on current form, he’s got to be a player.
