AYR GOLD CUP FESTIVAL SELECTIONS (DAY 2)
3.05 Ayr (Scottish Sprint EBF Fillies’ Stakes): STAR OF LADY M – 10/3 (Win)
My first selection of the day on Friday at Ayr comes within the 3.05, and this is the Listed Scottish Sprint Fillies’ Stakes over five and a half furlongs. I’ve come down on Star Of Lady M here for the team of David O’Meara and Danny Tudhope. She was progressive last term and won last year’s renewal of this race, and returned from a layoff to finish third of nine behind Shagraan in a Listed event at Beverley last month. She should take a significant step forward coming into her second start of her campaign here, and it would be no surprise to see her go close in this again, as it’s likely been the plan for her to come here again.
4.45 Ayr: MISTER INVINCIBLE – 9/1 (Each-Way) (4 places) (Sky Bet, Unibet)
Next up for me will be the 4:45, and this is a Class 5 handicap, to be contested over a mile. I’m taking a chance on Mister Invincible here, who’s another representative for the David O’Meara and Danny Tudhope combination. He’s a seven-race maiden; however, he posted his best effort to date within handicap company at Newcastle last week, finishing third of ten over seven furlongs and kept on in the closing stages. The step up to a mile here could bring out further improvement, judging by his latest effort, and he should be competitive off his current mark at this level.
5.20 Ayr: FLEUR DE MER – 6/1 (Each-Way) (4 places)
My third and final selection of the day comes within the final race of the card, which is the 5.20, and a Class 5 handicap over a mile and five furlongs. I like the chances of Fleur De Mer here for Martin Todhunter and Mark Winn. She comes into the contest off the back of a neck second of seven at Newcastle last week, and that race was a Class 4 contest. She remains on the same mark for this particular assignment, and she’s run well on soft ground in the past. She’s also six pounds below his last winning mark, and looks weighted to go well again.
