Glorious Goodwood Selections (Day 2)
1.20: Coral Pipped At The Post Winners Handicap
We get things underway on Wednesday at Goodwood with the 1.20, which is a Class 2 handicap that’s contested over a mile and four furlongs. This is more competitive action; however, I’ve come down on Sudu for Roger Varian and Silvestre De Sousa. He didn’t get any luck on handicap debut at Newbury on his penultimate start; however, he put that run behind him in emphatic style at Epsom last time out, when winning by seven lengths. He’s up a sizeable eleven pounds for that success; however, he could still be firmly on the upgrade, and I think he can continue his upward trajectory here.
SUDU – 5/1 (Each-Way) (NB)

1.55: HKJC World Pool Oak Tree Stakes
Next up it’s the 1.55 and this is the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes for the fillies and mares over seven furlongs. I’ve tried my hand with one at a big price here, and that’s Arabian Dusk for Simon & Ed Crisford, who’s the mount of Harry Davies. She has strong form in several hot contests over six furlongs, and has shown glimpses in the past that she’ll have no issue with a step up to seven furlongs; this is also backed up in her pedigree. She was only beaten a shoulder when second in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock back in May, and I think she’s slightly overpriced here.
ARABIAN DUSK – 12/1 (Each-Way)

2.30: HKJC World Pool Molecomb Stakes
The third race of the afternoon is the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes, and this is to be ridden over five furlongs. I’m fairly strong on the chances of Lady Iman here, who’s an Irish raider for Ger Lyons, who’s secured the services of Ryan Moore. She’s already got strong form to her name, winning a Listed event as well as a Group 3, getting the better of subsequent impressive Royal Ascot winner True Love in the process. She was beaten last time in Group 2 company at the Curragh when a short price over six furlongs; however, she should make amends now that she’s back down to five furlongs, and she’s my best bet of the day.
LADY IMAN – 6/4 (Win) (NAP)

3.05: Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes
The feature race of the afternoon comes up at 3.05 and this is the Group 1 Sussex Stakes that’s contested over a mile. This should be all about Field Of Gold for John & Thady Gosden, who on this occasion is the mount of William Buick, with Colin Keane being suspended. He’s looked better than ever on his last two outings, winning the Irish 2000 Guineas on his penultimate start by three and three-quarters of a length, before taking the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot by the same distance. He should confirm the Ascot form with Henri Matisse here, and it looks like a big task for Rosallion to give the weight away to such a talented rival. It would be a major shock if he were beaten.
FIELD OF GOLD – 4/11 (Win)

3.45: British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap
It’s back into handicap company at 3.45 with a Class 2 fillies’ handicap over a mile and two furlongs. I’m taking a chance on the Andrew Balding trained Music Piece here, who’s the mount of Oisin Murphy. She’ll need to improve on her handicap debut at Ascot last time, where she finished a fairly underwhelming eighth of ten. However, on her penultimate outing, she finished a neck second of nine within Listed company over course and distance in May. That piece of form brings her into the equation here, and she’ll likely appreciate the drop back down to ten furlongs for this particular assignment.
MUSIC PIECE – 15/2 (Each-Way)
