2.15: Marygate Fillies’ Stakes: My first selection of the day on Friday comes in the opener at 2.15 which is the Listed Marygate Fillies’ Stakes over five furlongs. I like Running Queen here for the team of Ollie Sangster and Oisin Murphy. She progressed impressively from her racecourse debut to win at Salisbury last time out, keeping on strongly at the finish. She’ll likely come on again for that run here which has to make her a massive player for a yard that are currently in great form. She may need further over time but she’s certainly shown he has speed so far. Running Queen – 7/2 (Win)
2.45: Knights Solicitors Handicap: The second race of the afternoon comes up at 2.45 and this is handicap action over a mile and two and a half furlongs. I’m with Majestic here who’s currently a 6/1 chance in the betting for Jack Channon and George Bass who takes off three pounds. He’s ran very well in both of his starts this season finishing fifth and fourth, with each outing coming at Newmarket and both within competitive handicaps. He’ll contest this off the same mark as those efforts with the added bonus of a three-pound claim which I think puts him firmly in calculations. Majestic – 6/1 (Each-Way)
3.15: Sky Bet Fillies’ Stakes: Next up is the 3.15 which is more Listed action for the fillies’, this time over a mile. This is extremely competitive, however, I’ve come down on Bolsena for Kevin Ryan and Ryan Moore. Following three efforts within maiden and novice company, she finally put it all together on her fourth outing at Newmarket last month, winning impressively by three lengths. She should kick on again from that run and she could still have more to offer for a yard that enjoys having winners around here. Bolsena – 5/1 (Each-Way)
3.45: Boodles Yorkshire Cup Stakes: The feature race of the day comes up at 3.45 which is the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup that’s contested over a mile and six furlongs. I’m strong on the chances of Tower Of London here for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. He’s looked impressive in Dubai in the Spring, with his most recent success coming when winning the Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup back in March in comfortable fashion by two lengths. He looks really progressive and could develop into a huge player within this division, I think he’ll take all the beating in this. Tower Of London – 6/4 (Win) (NAP)
4.15: Darley EBF Novice Stakes: My fifth selection of the day comes up at 4.15 within novice company over a mile. I think Lead Artist should take a lot of beating here for John & Thady Gosden and Kieran Shoemark. He was narrowly defeated on racecourse debut at Newmarket last month by a neck by First Conquest, who he’ll reoppose here but six pounds better off at the weights. That should prove very significant and if he’s to naturally progress he could prove too good for these. It hasn’t gone quite to plan this week for the yard but this looks like a very solid contender. Lead Artist – 5/4 (Win) (NB)
4.45: Yorkshire Equine Practice Handicap: Signing me off for the afternoon will be the 4.45 which is a Class 4 handicap set to be contested over a distance of seven furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Danzan here for the team of Tim Easterby and David Allan. He’s finished third on both of his starts to date this term at Ripon and Thirsk most recently and remains on a mark that is two pounds lower than his last winning one. He’s ultra-consistent at this track with several placed efforts within competitive contests and I believe he can go well again. Danzan – 8/1 (Each-Way)
