Welcome aboard to Thursday’s Midweek Preview where I’ve got selections to share with you all from Doncaster. As ever, make sure to gamble responsibly if you are having a punt.
12.55: SBK Maiden Hurdle: We kick things off with a maiden hurdle at 12.55 over two miles and three and a half furlongs. I think that this can go to Jagwar for Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero, who’s the mount of Jonjo O’Neil. He showed a lot of promise when second to Inthewaterside at Aintree on stable debut before a disappointing effort in handicap company at Haydock in December. He should be able to bounce back here and go very close. Jagwar – 7/4F (Win)
1.30: SBK Handicap Chase: Next up it’s the 1.30 which is a handicap chase over two miles and four and a half furlongs. I like Good Work here who represents the same training team as my previous pick and is this time the mount of Toby Wynne who takes off three pounds. He’s a long-standing maiden, however, posted a very encouraging effort when second last time out at Bangor, he’s down in trip here and if building on that run can make his presence felt. Good Work – 7/1 (Each-Way)
2.40: SBK Handicap Hurdle: I’m moving onto the 2.40 now for my third selection of the afternoon which is a handicap hurdle that’s ridden over two miles and three and a half furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Jipcot here for the team of Ben Pauling and David Bass. He’s clearly well thought of having been chucked into Grade 1s since being recruited from France, and despite not showing the promise he showed in France, he posted a more encouraging effort over fences last time at Wetherby when finishing third of five, four lengths behind the winner. He should be competitive off this mark and it would be disappointing to not see progress within this sphere. Jipcot – 4/1 (Win)
3.15: SBK Mares’ Handicap Hurdle: My fourth and final selection of the afternoon comes in the 3.15 which is a mares handicap hurdle over two miles and three and a half furlongs. I like the chance of Lilting Vere here for Fergal O’Brien and Tom Broughton who takes off seven pounds. She won a listed bumper, beating the useful Alfie’s Princess as well as a maiden hurdle by six lengths. Her opening handicap mark isn’t ideal, however, her rider is set to take off seven pounds and I think she could prove to be a bit better than this level. Lilting Verse – 11/2 (Each-Way)
