As I look towards the second day of Royal Ascot, I’m putting this preview together before Day 1 has actually taken place so I’m unable to have a look at back at what happened in the Kings Stand, in reference to my Day 1 feature.
I’ll be taking a look at the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes on Day 2, which is set to take place at 3.00pm on Wednesday.
Enjoy!

Runner Guide:
No. 1
ADDEYBB
Trainer: William Haggas
Jockey: Tom Marquand
Estimated SP: 11/2
Form: 212-11
Overview:
Winner of the Wolferton Stakes at the Royal Meeting last year, Addeybb has been in fine form over the last twelve months. Most recently, he’s been seen plying his trade in Australia throughout March and April where he managed to claim two Group 1 races in very impressive style. He enjoys cut in the ground so the rain over the past few days will be welcomed news for him.
No. 2
BANGKOK
Trainer: Andrew Balding
Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa
Estimated SP: 40/1
Form: 522-13
Overview:
Bangkok is a smart four-year-old colt by Australia who won the Winter Derby Trial on his penultimate outing before finishing third behind John Gosden’s Dubai Warrior in the Winter Derby itself. He was a Group 3 winner last year at Sandown when winning the Classic Trial, this followed success at Doncaster where he got the better of the smart Telecaster, who went onto win the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York.
No. 3
BARNEY ROY
Trainer: Charlie Appleby
Jockey: William Buick
Estimated SP: 6/1
Form: 218-11
Overview:
Winner of the St James Palace Stakes back in 2017 when with Richard Hannon, Barney Roy made his return to the track from stud last year and is now under the care of Charlie Appleby. He finished eighth in last year’s Queen Anne before winning his two latest outings in Meydan, the most recent being a Group 1. A very likeable as well as a smart contender who will be a popular play with punters.
No. 4
HEADMAN
Trainer: Roger Charlton
Jockey: Jason Watson
Estimated SP: 6/1
Form: 61115-
Overview:
Headman is a four-year-old colt by Kingman who had an impressive campaign last season. He won the valuable London Gold Cup Handicap at Newbury before going onto win successive Group races over in France. He signed off for the season with a fifth-place effort in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown behind Magical. His sire won the St James Palace Stakes here back in 2014.
No. 5
JAPAN
Trainer: Aidan O’Brien
Jockey: Ryan Moore
Estimated SP: 5/6
Form: 31114-
Overview:
Winner of the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris and the Group 1 Juddmonte International, Japan arrives here the hot favourite and the one they all have to beat. He was also a winner at last year’s Royal Ascot when taking the Group 2 King Edward VI stakes in impressive style, beating Bangkok by over four lengths. He signed off last season with another impressive display when finishing fourth in the Arc and that form is the best on offer here.
No. 6
LORD NORTH
Trainer: John Gosden
Jockey: James Doyle
Estimated SP: 10/1
Form: 2121-1
Overview:
Lord North won the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket last year and has since gone onto contest higher graded events, to much success too. He’s won his last two races which included a Listed race at Newmarket, and the rerouted Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Haydock earlier this month. He looks to have improvement still in him and has an interesting jockey booking of James Doyle.
No. 7
MEHDAAYIH
Trainer: John Gosden
Jockey: Frankie Dettori
Estimated SP: 12/1
Form: 71205-
Overview:
An impressive winner of the Listed Cheshire Oaks back in May of last year, Mehdaayih couldn’t reproduce that effort in the Epsom Oaks when finishing seventh after going off favourite. She did then, however, go onto win a Group 2 in France and was placed in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. She’s the choice of Dettori here, which is certainly positive for her supporters.
