Meydan once again takes centre stage on the level this Thursday and the feature event is the 4.50 which is a decent looking Listed affair over six furlongs on the dirt. It will come as no surprise to UAE fans that Doug Watson has the two market leaders here as he once again stamps his authority this time in the form of Kimbear and Almanaara.

Kimbear developed into a smart performer here last term running many big races in Carnival events and its likely he’ll be turned up for a big showing here. He does have a few questions to answer over this trip with most of his form coming over slightly further however he’s the choice of Pat Dobbs and takes his place at the top of the market here at around the 5/2 mark. Stablemate Almanaara certainly looks the chief threat to him, he’s got two wins over course and distance to his name within handicaps and is a big player here under Dane O’Neil. Watson is also represented in the field by Drafted, who also has a couple of victories to his name around here including one which was during the Carnival. A step up is needed to feature within this company however you wouldn’t want to rule him out.

Familiar names in the line up look to be Dutch Masterpiece, Ibn Malik and Sutter County. All more than capable players on their day however mostly on turf, Dutch Masterpiece sits this most prominent in the betting out of the former UK trained trio as he currently trades at a general 5/1 mark. Raven’s Corner was also once trained in the UK and he’s now developed into a smart performer in the UAE most notably when he made all to win a carnival handicap back in February. He does however have a difficult draw to contend with on this particular occasion.

Race Verdict:

“A very intriguing event of which looks very competitive, it looks as though Doug Watson may have the answer training the top two in the betting and Kimbear looks to edge it between the two on class. Almanaara will likely prove a tough nut to crack though if getting a good trip and Raven’s Corner could be one to keep an eye out for if he handles a testing draw.”
