David MacDonald

(Uttoxeter Racecourse Director)

What’s your personal favourite race at Uttoxeter?

“It has to be The Midlands Grand National . It’s a race with a great history and it is a real test.”

What was your favourite performance of any horse at Uttoxeter during your time at the course?

“Synchronised winning the MGN in 2010. The race was actually slower than the Grand National won by Don’t push it a few weeks later. What a fighter Synchronised was.”

Who’s your favourite horse of all time?

“Amberleigh House was owned by my boss at the time of his Grand National Victory John Halewood. I had placed bets on the horse all year. I also had a few happy friends that year!”

Who’s your favourite rider of all time?

“Most jockeys have a closer relationship with the Clerks than the racecourse directors so you really do take note of those that make an effort and Andrew Thornton is the nicest guy you could meet. Interestingly on a raceday Tony McCoy was so focused he barely looked you in the eye BUT when he was a guest as an after dinner speaker he was funny and charming.”

What can people look forward to at Uttoxter this summer?

“On the racing front The Staffordshire Plate , The Clarke Chase and the summer Cup. Entertainment wise I can’t wait to see The Lightning Seeds and the coolest Spice Girl Melanie C who is DJ on Ladies Night.”
