“Welcome aboard to Friday’s blog, looking back at Thursday, we started off with our NB of the day Frank Stamper, who was put up at 5/2 at Wincanton, he unfortunatley didn’t fire at all, he was backed in to 7/4, then drifted out to 11/4 before the off, and ran accordingly, he was out the back, and never picked up under Sean Bowen. Our NAP of the day, Ballymackie, was a non-runner, so it was off to Haydock for Land Of Punt. He ran a decent race and got up to finish third on his handicap debut; there should be more to come from him, and he is one to probably be on the side of next time out. Finally, it was Locker Boum for us at Haydock in the bumper, which was the closing race of the card. He set the pace but tired coming out of the back straight on his rules debut and eventually finished fourth. Turbocharged was an impressive winner of the race, and looking back, was probably the obvious one given his third behind the talented Bass Hunter last time out.” – Jordan.
We have three selections on Friday, and the first of them comes within the 3.10 at Exeter, which is a Class 4 handicap hurdle over two miles and half of a furlong. I think that Jane Williams has a very live challenger here in the form of JAMINSKA, who’s the mount of Ciaran Gethings. She’s a seven-year-old mare who won twice in novice company and took her form to the next level when finishing third of twelve and just three-quarters of a length behind the progressive Fortune De Mer in a Grade 2 novice at Cheltenham in October. She then followed that run up at Newbury when third in Listed company behind a couple of useful mares in La Conquiere and Charisma Cat, so she’s already got some very solid form in the book. I think that she could be a fair bit better than her current mark of 117 now. A bold showing would be no surprise.
Jaminska (10/3) (Win) – 3.10 Exeter.
We’re staying at Exeter for our second selection of the afternoon, and the 4.10, and this is another handicap hurdle, this time Class 5 company over two miles and seven furlongs. I’m quite strong on the chances of FOLLOWING CHAPTER in this particular contest for the team of Alastair Ralph and Ciaran Gethings. He was a four-length winner on his penultimate start at Warwick back in December, in what was just his second start within handicap company. He was sent off at 4/6 to follow up at Ludlow last time out, and whilst he wasn’t able to land his short odds, he still ran a good race to finish second of twelve, two and a quarter lengths behind the winner, and notably, seven and a half lengths ahead of the third. He likely bumped into a big improver that day in Windsor Blue, and there should be plenty more improvement to come from Ralph’s charge now he’s upped in distance here, given how he’s kept on in each of his last two starts.
Following Chapter (5/2) (Win) – 4.10 Exeter.
Our third and final selection of the afternoon comes on the all-weather from Newcastle, and within the 4.26, which is a Class 5 handicap that’s contested over a mile and four and a half furlongs. The James Owen-trained MARKET HOUSE should be a very big player here under five-pound claimer Mason Paetel. He’s been knocking on the door as of late and has placed in each of his last two starts at Lingfield and Wolverhampton, off the same mark as today’s, and he also has a further five coming off his back here via Paetel’s claim, and that has to make him of serious interest. He’s a course and distance winner, and he should be returning to the winner’s enclosure sooner rather than later for a yard that are no strangers to it.
Market House (5/2) (Win) (NAP) – 4.26 Newcastle.
