NEWMARKET CAMBRIDGESHIRE MEETING (DAY 2)
1.15: BoyleSports British EBF Rosemary Stakes (Class 1) (Listed):
We’re kicking things off on Day 2 of the Cambridgeshire with the 1.15 and this is the Listed Rosemary Stakes for fillies & mares over a mile. I’m taking a chance on Never Let Go here for Ed Walker and Kieran Shoemark. She’s a progressive filly who has placed twice already this term within Listed company, as well as winning the ultra-competitive Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot in June. The Walker yard had a winner within Listed company here yesterday on the opening day of the meeting, and I think this three-year-old daughter of No Nay Never represents a bit of value here.
NEVER LET GO – 7/1 (Each-Way) (4 places)
1.50: Princess Royal Stakes (Class 1) (Group 3):
Next up is the 1.50, and this is Group 3 action in the Princess Royal Stakes, also for fillies & mares, and this time contested over a mile and four furlongs. I’m trying my hand with another each-way play here, and in this particular affair, I’ve come down on Revoir for Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch. She was a horse that I was keen on following this term, and whilst she hasn’t managed to get her head in front yet this season, she has a string of very solid efforts in defeat. Most recently, she finished a close-up second in back-to-back Listed events at Salisbury and Longchamp, and she could appreciate this step back up to a mile and four furlongs. She represents a yard that has excelled with fillies in recent years, and she’s currently a nice price.
REVOIR – 9/1 (Each-Way) (4 places – bet365, Sky Bet)
2.25: BoyleSports Home Of Early Payout Rockfel Stakes: (Class 1) (Group 2):
My third selection comes within the 2.25 and this is the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes for fillies over seven furlongs. I find it hard to see past the Owen Burrows trained Touleen here, who currently heads the betting under William Buick. She comes into the racing boasting a perfect record of two victories from two starts, and she’s looked exciting in both of said outings. Most recently, she dispatched of Zanthos at Leicester by three and a quarter lengths, and that rival is closest to her in the betting here. It’s hard to see that form being turned around, given the margin of victory, and I think that Owen Burrows could have a nice one on his hands here.
TOULEEN – 11/8 (Win) (NB)
3.00: BoyleSports Daily Racing Rewards Joel Stakes: (Class 1) (Group 2):
My penultimate pick of the day comes up at 3.00 and this is another Group 2 event, in the form of the Joel Stakes over a mile. I’m very strong on the chances of Opera Ballo here for the boys in blue of Charlie Appleby and William Buick. He’s won four of his five starts to date, with his last two victories coming in Listed company at Sandown and on the July Course here, where he won both of those starts in impressive style. He looks well worth this step up to Group 2 company, and he could prove to be a Group 1 horse in the future. Zeus Olympios looks an exciting prospect himself, and is a big rival, but I think it might take a big performance to stop the Appleby colt.
OPERA BALLO – 4/5 (Win) (NAP)
4.10: BoyleSports Daily Money Back Meetings British EBF “Confined” Maiden Stakes (Class 4):
I’ve got one more selection today, and that comes within the 4.10, which is a Class 4 maiden that’s contested over seven furlongs. I quite like Captain Fox here for Richard Hughes and Finley Marsh. He progressed from his racecourse debut to finishing three-quarters of a length second of eleven at Lingfield last time out. He appreciated the step up in distance to seven furlongs that day, and he should naturally continue to progress coming into his third start here. I think he’s well worth an each-way play here at his current price.
