It’s always a good standard level of racing at Newbury, whether that be midweek or weekend, National Hunt or Flat. And that’s no different this Wednesday with a wide variety of talent on show from big stables up and down the country. There’s a very intriguing looking Listed Mares Chase that takes place at 2.15 and has a prize fund of over £15,000. The race has attracted a small field of five runners and it’s the Colin Tizzard trained Drinks Interval who currently heads proceedings. She seemed to be taking well to the bigger obstacles having won three times but came down last time when fancied at Market Rasen. She is very versatile ground wise and is likely to have a big say here if bouncing back from that fall which reflects in her price of 15/8.

Dan Skelton sends Molly The Dolly to take her place here, she comes here on back to back victories and is a live player under Harry Skelton. You can find her trading at a currently best priced of 11/4. Pearl Royle looked impressive last time at Carlisle when hacking up by the best part of six lengths, it’s likely another step up is needed here but if turning up in the same form she’ll also have a big say. She’s best priced of around 10/3. Jessica Harrington sends a runner over to tackle this competitive affair and that’s Magic Of Light. A tough horse who’s a very capable player on her day. She ran a cracker on her reappearance in a hot big field handicap the last day and despite having to take a step up herself to play a part here it certainly doesn’t look beyond her. Robbie Power is in the saddle. Two Smokin Barrels is the 33/1 outsider of the five and concludes the field for Michael Scudamore.

Race Verdict:

This competitive small field affair could go to any of the four principals in the betting and I’m just going to side with Drinks Interval. She’ll have to bounce back from a fall last time which isn’t ideal but before that she looked very at home over fences and can also go on any ground. Magic Of Light looks the chief threat for me and can follow the selection home.
