(1.20) (Haydock Park)

An enticing card this Wednesday at Haydock as some of the biggest yards within the National Hunt sphere deploy some of their promising younger talents to take to the track. Starting off with the 1.20 which is a Class 2 Novice Chase and its a race that’s contested over a distance of two miles and four furlongs and it see’s Mr Whipped take his place at the top of the market here for Nicky Henderson. He made a decent start to life over the bigger obstacles the last day with a third placed effort in a decent contest at Cheltenham. He’s likely going of come on for that run and go close once again here. The main rival to the market principal looks to be Springtown Lake for Philip Hobbs who won impressively last time from the front and another bold bid under a penalty in the hands of the Champion Jockey.

Race Verdict:

“Mr Whipped should come on for his first outing over fences and his class should see him through as the odds suggest. Springtown Lake will likely put up strong resilience that said.”

(1.55) (Haydock Park)

The 1.55 at Haydock is a hurdle over a trip of a mile and seven furlongs and it’s currently headed by the highly regarded The Big Bite for Tom George. He was a smart bumper horse last term and got off to the perfect start over hurdles with an impressive victory at Chepstow last time. There certainly looks a lot more to come from him and he also has the added bonus of Noel Fehily in the saddle here. A bold showing is likely. The interesting contender that is Demopolis for Phillip Hobbs takes his place next in the betting, he’s not been seen since his sole start in France in the spring of 2017 where he battled well to come out on top. It remains to be seen what kind of ability he brings to the table now but he represents top connections and is certainly worth keep an eye on in the betting.

Darksideoftarnside is an interesting contender here for Ian Williams, he was a decent enough performer on the level and could well progress over hurdles for a trainer that does very well with dual purpose horses. Fibonacci will likely come on for his run last time out for Alan King where he only beat one home as it’s likely he’s a lot better than that showing.

Race Verdict:

“It’s unclear how good Demopolis could be but the betting suggests he’s every chance of playing a big part here, The Big Bite will be tough to beat though and he should continue his progression with another bold showing here.”
