We’ve got a fantastic couple of days racing in store at HQ which kicks off this Friday with several Group races including the Group 1 contest that is the Fillies Mile. Won last year by the impressive Laurens this mile long contest has thrown up a fiercely competitive renewal this time around with several horses battling it out at the top of the market for favouritism. The Aidan O’Brien trained Hermosa (3/1) just seems to head affairs at the moment, she comes here off the back of a comfortable success in Group 3 company the last day before finishing a solid third in the Group 1 Moyglare on her penultimate start. A solid contender for powerhouse connections and the mount of Donnacha O’Brien. Aidan O’Brien is also represented here by Zagitova (5/1) who was only just behind her stablemate in the Moyglare when finishing fourth and looks a smart sort herself. A live contender here with Seamie Heffernan on board.

Hermosa (3/1) (Form: 41631)

Pretty Pollyanna (4/1) confirmed herself as one of the best fillies over six furlongs this term with a dominant display on the July course here in Group 2 company before going on to win the Group 1 Prix Morny over in France. She did however fall short when last seen here in the Cheveley Park and will need to bounce back if to feature here as well as proving herself over this longer trip. Danny Tudhope takes the ride for Michael Bell. The exciting filly that is Antonio De Vega (9/2) is set to take her place here and comes here boasting an unbeaten record following a second successive win the last day, this time in Group 3 company at Goodwood. Her partnership is once renewed with Harry Bentley here. Another horse who comes into this with an unbeaten record is the John Gosden trained Shambolic (9/1). She’s won two lesser contests and will need to take a rather sizeable step up here but the limits to her potential for this top yard are still unknown and she has the services of Frankie Dettori here.

The Godolphin representative here comes in the form of Beyond Reason (11/1) for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. She was behind both the O’Brien trained duo when last seen and has a bit of work to do should she reverse that form but she has won a Group 2 and Group 3 this year over in France. She’s certainly not ruled out here and could well enter each way calculations. The two that make up the field here at large prices are Layaleena (25/1) for Sir Michael Stoute and Iridessa (33/1) for Joseph O’Brien.

VERDICT:

An extremely competitive affair of which a case can be made for a lot of the field. Either of the O’Brien duo could take it as both look solid contenders. Pretty Pollyanna is a very smart sort and has more than enough ability to win this however the negatives seem to be the unknown over the trip and the below par run last time here. Shambolic has bundles of potential however the negative for her is that this is a markedly big step up in Grade. Beyond Reason could have place claims on the form of her two Group success however the negative for her is that she’s more exposed and has already finished behind a couple of today’s rivals. I’ve sided with ANTONIO DE VEGA here. She could well be anything and despite having to step up again, I think she could well just do that over this slightly longer trip.

ANTONIO DE VEGA – (9/2)

(Quick Picks)

(Newmarket)

2.25:

HIDDEN MESSAGE (3/1)

(Won very impressively the last day on debut and could well be anything for top connections.)

4.10:

ROCK EAGLE (7/2)

(Strong finishing sort that’s ran consistently in each run, player again here.)
