Doncaster St Leger Festival 2018 Preview. (Day 2)

St Leger Festival 2018

Park Hill Stakes (Group 2) (1m 6f 115y)

The Park Hill Stakes takes place on Thursday afternoon on Day 2 of the St Leger Festival and it’s a Group 2 affair a contest for Fillies & Mares and ridden over a distance of just over a mile and six furlongs. This year’s renewal is headed by Pilaster for the team of Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni who of course need no introduction around here. Pilaster looks to be potentially really smart on the back of her Group 2 win the last day at Goodwood of which the form has since been boosted by the runner up. She’s clearly a big player and that’s why she sits at the top of the market at a best priced of around 7/4.

Next up in the betting is Andrew Balding’s representative Horseplay who can be found trading at a general 11/4 in the betting and she’s a smart performer at this level on her day. She won the Lancashire Oaks on her penultimate start and was last seen when finishing fourth in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks at York. She’s a live contender reunited with Oisin Murphy here. Battling it out behind the two market principles are God Given for Luca Cumani and Jamie Spencer and Sizzling for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore who are both generally consistent performances at this level and are both generally trading at around the 6/1 mark in the betting.

Ralph Beckett bids to win this race for a third time and he’s represented here by dual Listed winner Isabel De Ubina who’s a general 16/1 chance and is the mount of Harry Bentley. The rest of the field is made up by Galmarley for Lucy Wadham and Flattering for Aidan O’Brien who are both around the 20/1 mark.

Unoriginal but I can’t get away from PILASTER here. I think she’ll have to step up again here and I think she can do just that for a trainer and jockey combination that do so well around this particular track.
