Longines Grosser Preis Von Baden Preview. (02/09/2018)
Sunday 2nd September 2018
Group 1 action this Sunday comes in the form of the Grosser Preis Von Baden at Germany’s Baden-Baden which is a contest that’s ridden over a distance of a mile and four furlongs with more than £132,000 going to the winner.
It see’s the return of Roger Varian’s Defoe who currently sits at the top of the market trading generally around the 15/8 mark and once again reunited with Andrea Atzeni. He was last seen when putting in a slightly below par run at the Curragh in May but before that in his two runs of the season he looked better than ever winning both in comfortable fashion. Its another UK raider who’s next up in the betting and that’s none other than Best Solution for Saeed Bin Suroor. He comes here in great form on the back of back to back victories with the latter of those also coming in Group 1 company in Germany at Hoppegarten. He’s a live contender here and can be found in the betting around the 11/4 mark. Pat Cosgrave takes the ride.
The best of the home challenge looks to come in the form of Dschingis Secret for Markus Klug. A very smart performer on his day and didn’t go unfancied in last year’s Arc. A Group 1 winner last term as well as picking up a Group 2 in Hamburg this season, he does have a bit to find however with Best Solution as he was comfortably beaten by him the last day. He’s around a 7/2 chance. Oisin Murphy gets a ride here and that’s aboard the in form Night Music who’s won her last five. A Sea The Stars offspring who’ll need to step up again here but there’s no saying she won’t at around the 10/1 mark. Iquitos (15/2) has a great record in this particular contest winning it in 2016 and runner up in 2017. He’ll no doubt be seen late on picking up the pieces coming with a late run. The rest of the field is made up by Windstoss (20/1), Khan (66/1) and Rapido (100/1).
I always try to find some value within these Previews however today im being really boring and siding with the market leader DEFOE. Im a huge fan of this horse and he seems to enjoy coming back off a lay off and running fresh. This will be a tough affair to say the least but ill side with him to just about come on top.
DEFOE – 15/8
