A real tough day to kick off this year’s Glorious Goodwood, my advice would be to bet conservatively as personally ill be happy with just one winner this afternoon!

I’ll be previewing the feature race of each day and have a few picks for others.

Enjoy!

The Goodwood Cup is the feature contest on Day One of the now named Qatar Goodwood Festival and it’s a Group 1 affair ridden over a distance of two miles.

Won last year by Stradivarius for John Gosden this very impressive sort is back again in an attempt to retain his crown. He comes here off the back of an impressive win the Ascot Gold Cup and a dominant display at York and is going to be very tough to beat. Andrea Atzeni is back on board following Frankies suspension and he’s a very warm order around the 4/7 mark.

Torcedor is next up in the market for Jessica Harrington and he’s come on massively in the last year or so, his progress culminating in a close up third placed effort in the Ascot Gold Cup behind Stradivarius and Vazirabad. He bolted up the time before that around Ascot and could well serve it up the Gosden hotpot once again. He’s trading at a general 4/1 and is the mount of Colm O’Donoghue.

Call To Mind for the Queen and William Haggas comes here off the back of an impressive win in a Grade 2 affair in the US and is generally an ultra consistent performer sort. He’s the mount of the in form James Doyle and you can find him trading at around 12/1. The Ballydoyle representative comes in the form of Idaho who’s got a bit to prove on the back of recent efforts but is a player on his top form. He’s the mount of Ryan Moore and is around 10/1 in the market.

The rest of the field is made up by Desert Skyline for David Elsworth, Dal Harraild for William Haggas and St Michel for Sir Mark Prescott.

VERDICT:

Whilst I think Stradivarius will win he’s no price and Torcedor has no real each way value so I’ll take a chance on the consistent CALL TO MIND to follow the favourite home. He’s a big price and is in good form so could well outrun his odds.

CALL TO MIND – (12/1) (E/W)
