Newmarket July Festival 2018 Preview. Day 1.

Thursday 12th July 2018

Newmarket July Festival Day 1

The Princess of Wales stakes takes centre stage on the first day of Newmarket’s July Festival and it’s a Group 2 contest that’s ridden over a distance of a mile and four furlongs.

It see’s Mirage Dancer for Sir Michael Stoute head affairs in the Prince Khalid Abdullah colours. He’s continued progression nicely this season and was arguably a bit unlucky the last day at Ascot in the Wolferton when finishing fifth. Ryan Moore is back on board here and he can be found trading at a general 9/4.

Raa Atoll and Barsanti are battling it out for the second favourite mark both trading at around the 5/1 mark respectively. Barsanti was last seen when putting in a rare below par effort in the Hardwicke at Ascot whereas Raa Atoll produced a front running fourth placed effort in Group 2 company. Atzeni once again takes the ride on Barsanti and Frankie Dettori has his partnership renewed with Raa Atoll.

John Gosden is also represented by Muntahaa here whereas the Godolphin representative here comes in the form of Best Solution for Saeed bin Suroor and Pat Cosgrave.

VERDICT:

I’m going to keep faith here with MIRAGE DANCER and back him to bounce back from his Ascot defeat. I still think there’s more to come from him and with Ryan back on board he could well put in a serious bid here.

Mirage Dancer – (9/4)
