Curragh Irish Guineas Meeting. Day Two. (27/05/2018)

Sunday 27th May 2018 – Curragh

Day Two of the Irish Guineas Meeting at the Curragh takes centre stage this Sunday and its a very tough card to try and find some good things from but a top drawer one at that. A shock winner was had yesterday in the 2000 Guineas with Romanised edging out the Ballydoyle Battalions and here are my views for Day Two….

Decrypt (5/1) (E/W) (Jockey: W J Lee – Trainer: P Twomey)

(Looks a decent proposition on paper and connections have done well in this contest before and could well get involved.)

Defoe (11/8) (Jockey: A Atzeni – Trainer: R Varian)

(Cliffs Of Moher is likely to be tough to beat here since returning to form the last day but i’m a huge fan of Defoe. I think there’s still a lot of progressing still to be had with him and he can once again put up a bold showing here.)

Conclusion (15/2) (E/W) (Jockey: R L Moore – Trainer: A P O’Brien)

(Just touched off in second the last day by a nose at Leopardstown but has been getting the hang of things steadily, could well go close again here with Ryan Moore on board.)

Roconga (12/1) (E/W) (Jockey: F Berry – Trainer: E J O’Grady)

(Does well on the Flat and will enjoy the ground here, put in a decent effort over the sticks the last day and could put in a decent effort again here.)

4.10 Irish 1000 Guineas (Class 1) (Group 1) (1m)

The Irish 1000 Guineas takes centre stage this Sunday at the Curragh which is of course a Group One contest that’s ridden over a mile.

I’ve got two selections here and the first of these comes in the form of the market leader HAPPILY for Aiden O’Brien and Ryan Moore, who had to settle for second in the 2000 Guineas yesterday. She put in a solid effort in third at Newmarket in the English classic the last day and I think that’s the solid form of the race. She quickly rose to the top of the tree last season and turned into a smart  performer. She’ll also likely be a lot more tuned up now and should put in a bold showing.

The other one at a bigger price I like here comes in the form of LIGHTENING QUICK now with Johnny Murtagh. She got back to winning ways in nice style on her reappearance run the last day and I think she’s a very talented sort and could well here at a big price. Jamie Spencer takes the ride.

Happily – (6/4) (Jockey: R L Moore – Trainer: A P O’Brien)

Lightening Quick – (16/1) (E/W) (Jockey: J P Spencer – Trainer: J P Murtagh)

NAP: Happily – 4.10

NB: Decrypt – 1.50
