Sandown Brigadier Gerard Meeting Preview. (24/05/2018)

 Thursday 24th May 2018 – Sandown

It’s the Brigadier Gerard Evening at Sandown Park and it’s a cracker of a card for Flat fans to enjoy with two Group Three’s and a Listed Contests to get stuck into.

Here’s my views…

Stormingin (5/1) (E/W) (Jockey: R L Moore – Trainer: G L Moore)

(Placed last four times including on stable debut the last day, the market leader What A Welcome will likely be tough to beat but this one could improve again and go close, Ryan Moore on board.)

Wedding Date (6/1) (E/W) (Jockey: R L Moore – Trainer: R Hannon)

(Won nicely the last day in a decent maiden at Chester, yard have a good record in this and could well go close again here.)

Without Parole (4/6) (Jockey: L Dettori – Trainer: J H M Gosden)

(Looks a certain Group horse on the back of his impressive two victories, Frankel colt for top yard and should be going very close here.)

7.35 Henry II Stakes (Class 1) (Group 3) (2m):

The Henry II Stakes is the other Group contest on off at Sandown on Brigadier Gerard evening and it’s a Group Three contest thats ridden over two miles.

The race is made up of a variety of progressive types and more established older stayers on the flat. Magic Circle and Mount Moriah come here looking like they’ve got more progressing to do this season as both won when last time out. They can be found trading at around 9/2 and 11/2 respectively.

Sheikhzayedroad the nine year old is the most experienced sort and is a proven performer at this level and higher, he’s likely to give his running for trainer David Simcock and can be found at a general 5/1.

The one i’ll be siding with here though is WEEKENDER for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori. Sporting those famous Prince Khalid colours I think there’s a lot to come from this one this season. He won very nicely on reappearance the last day and should put in another bold showing here.

Weekender (9/4) (Jockey: L Dettori – Trainer: J H M Gosden)

8.10 Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Class 1) (Group 3) (1m 2f)

Poet’s Word (8/13) (Jockey: R L Moore – Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute)

(Top performer at this level and showed late progression last term, good second the last day at Meydan and should go very close to winning here at short odds.)

NAP: Without Parole 7.05

NB: Weekender 7.35
