York Dante Festival 2018 Preview. Day 3. (18/05/2018)
Friday 18th May 2018
York Dante Festival
Day 1 Day 2 Day 3
Day Three of the Dante Festival at York see’s the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup take centre stage where John Gosden once again has a strong hand following his exploits yesterday with Coronet winning and then Roaring Lion bolting up in the Dante.
Here’s my views on another action packed day on the Knavesmire…
No Lippy – (9/2) (Jockey: P J McDonald – Trainer: M Johnston)
(Won nicely last week at Chester with another dominant display from the front, the Fahey horse is Nickis Angel is likely to be tough to beat here but I’m staying loyal to this tough Johnston sprinter.)
Sheikha Reika – (2/1) (Jockey: A Atzeni – Trainer: R Varian)
(Won very nicely the last day at Newmarket and likely a lot more to come this season for powerful connections.)
3.30 – Yorkshire Cup (Class 1) (Group 2)
The Yorkshire Cup is the feature contest on Day Three of the Dante Festival at York and it’s a Group 2 contest that’s ridden over a distance of a mile and five furlongs.
Max Dynamite comes here off the back of some disappointing efforts over hurdles this season but his last few efforts on the level were quite impressive placing in the Melbourne Cup being the clear highlight. I think he’s the each way play here just edging out David Elsworth trained Desert Skyline.
It’s hard for me to get away from STRADIVARIUS though for that partnership of John Gosden and Frankie Dettori again. He developed himself into one of the best stayers around last season and he can take this as a starting point for another big season.
STRADIVARIUS – (5/6) (Jockey: L Dettori – Trainer: J H M Gosden)
Thundering Blue – (11/2) (E/W) (Jockey: A Atzeni – Trainer: D Menuisier)
(Proved himself as a smart performer last year and could well build on his reappearance effort here. Valcartier looks to be a very live danger for John Gosden and Godolphin.)
Bint Acarno – (15/2) (E/W) (Jockey: P Mulrennan – Trainer: Miss J A Camacho)
(Fourth in this last year and comes here with solid form to her name, seems to go well around here and could play a part.)
Koditime – (13/2) (E/W) (Jockey: R L Moore – Trainer: C G Cox)
(Dropped down in class here following a couple of mediocre efforts in Group company last season, likely to be a lot closer in this and Ryan Moore on board.)
Baghdad – (6/1) (E/W) (Jockey: W Buick – Trainer: M Johnston)
(Stayed well enough the last day when third over a slightly longer trip at Wolverhampton, could play a role here if handling the big field.)
NAP: Sheikha Reika – 2.55
NB: Koditime – 5.05
