York Dante Festival
Day 1 Day 2
We move onto Day Two of the Dante Meeting at York which is of course the day of the Dante itself which looks to be a competitive and tough renewal to call. Day One saw some great action on show and the return of the top class Harry Angel to the winners enclosure.
Here’s my views on Day Two…
El Astronaute – (10/1) (E/W) (Jockey: J Hart – Trainer: J J Quinn)
(Very consistant performer at this level and once again ran very well in defeat at Chester last week. Likely to put on another bold showing here.)
Coronet – (9/4) (Jockey: L Dettori – Trainer: J H M Gosden)
(Drop back in trip might not be ideal for her but she’s got the best form on offer here and should be hard to beat if handling the distance, Mori has had a wind op since a poor end to last term and is likely to be the main danger.)
3.30 – Dante Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2) (1m 2f)
The Dante itself heads affairs on Day Two of the Dante Meeting at York this week and it’s seen as one of the main trials for next months Investec Derby at Epsom.
Roaring Lion heads affairs this year for John Gosden following his fifth place effort in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. He’s been slightly disappointing this term so far following his defeat on his penultimate start when odds on for the Craven Stakes.
He does bring the strongest form to the table though and for that reason he’s trading at a general 6/4 mark.
Mildenberger is likely to be a tough nut to crack here for Mark Johnston and the highly touted Wells Farhh Go for Tim Easterby could well play a big role also.
The one I like here though is CROSSED BATON also for John Gosden, he won bravely from the front the last day at Epsom which isn’t easy to do and the horses in behind him have since gone on to frank the form at Chester. Frankie Dettori is on board and he can be found trading at a general 5/1 mark.
CROSSED BATON – (5/1) (Jockey: L Dettori – Trainer: J H M Gosden)
Original Choice – (4/1) (Jockey: J Doyle – Trainer: W J Haggas)
(Won the Hunt Cup the last day and could well progress further here if handling the ground and a 3 pound rise.)
Hey Jonesy – (7/2) (Jockey: T Eaves – Trainer: K Ryan)
(Smart performer last term and likely to give a bold showing here if coping with the drop down to five furlongs, ran well around here last term too.)
True Belief – (13/8) (Jockey: W Buick – Trainer: C Appleby)
(Yard do well with these types and won this race back in 2015, likely to be in the mix.)
NAP: True Belief – 5.05
NB: Cornet – 2.55
