Chester May Festival –
Day 1 Day 2
Thursday 10th May 2018
After a fantastic first day of action on Day One of the Chester May Festival where we saw many a potential future superstars take centre stage, we move on to Day Two of this fantastic festival.
Here’s my views….
Ive gone for two in the first race of Day Two of the meeting and the first of these is AMOMENTOFMADNESS for Charlie Hills and William Buick.
I’m a big fan of this horse and he’s been running well as of late. He’s got the plum draw here and loves attacking races from the front. It was raining a bit yesterday which is the concern as he ideally needs quick ground.
The second one I like is POWERALLIED for Richard Fahey and Doctor Marwan Koukash. These colours were carried to victory twice around here yesterday and this horse likes this track. I was here when he won in September, albeit off a few pounds lower but he could well get involved here from this draw.
AMOMENTOFMADNESS – (5/1) (E/W)
POWERALLIED – (8/1) (E/W)
My Lord And Master is likely going to be tough to beat here as he brings strong form to the table in his second placed effort to Crossed Baton at Epsom the last day. He’s certainly the one everyone has to beat here and he runs here for the in form Haggas yard which won the Vase yesterday here with the impressive Young Rascal.
I am going to try and take him on though and i’m going to do that with ROSTROPOVICH for AP O’Brien and Ryan Moore. He was a very decent
performer last year albeit being a bit below par on his comeback. He’s likely to come on a lot from that though and go well here for his all conquering yard that have won four of the last six renewals of this.
ROSTROPOVICH – (10/3)
This is a really tough contest that you could make a case for the majority of the field for, The one i’ll be taking a tentative bid on is PORTH SWTAN for Charlie Hills and Paul Hanagan. He got his nose infront the last day after a string of seconds in an albeit pretty weak contest over at Newmarket. That could well of given him the confident boost he needs and he does have a nice drawer here.
Being There and Vale Of Kent look the obvious chief threats but as stated above this is a really competitive affair where you can’t really rule out anyone.
PORTH SWTAN – (7/1) (E/W)
3.35: Diamond Ormdale Stakes (Class 1) (Grade 3) (1m 5f)
The Ormonde Stakes is the feature contest on Day Two of the Chester May Festival and it’s a Group Three contest that’s ridden over a mile and five furlongs.
It’s only attracted a field of six runners which doesn’t leave much room to manouver when it comes to finding an each way element to the race therefore I am going to be siding with IDAHO for O’Brien and Moore once again. He’s been slightly disappointing on his travels for his powerful connections but if he is on a going day he’s pretty much head and shoulders above this lot.
Muntahaa was once a classy performer himself and could well put in a bold bid if he himself is on a going day, one at a big price that could go well is Dylan Moth who has good record when going fresh in the past. Idaho tough to beat though here for me.
IDAHO – (11/10)
Another very competitive affair up next in the 4.05 and the one I like here is infact another Charlie Hills horse and that comes in the form of YNYS MON. He’s showed good progress in both of his runs to date and from a good draw here could well progress again, William Buick takes the ride.
Wedding Date is a horse that’s in my tracker and could well get involved here, he faded away a bit the last day on debut but SDS is on board
and could well get improvement out of him. Awake In Asia has been running well on bad ground, so could go even better here on a sounder surface however isn’t drawn great.
YNYS MON – (7/4)
GHOSTWATCH – (3/1)
(Very expensive buy who won very well the last day, should build on that and go very close here from a decent draw for powerful connections.)
ABAREEQ – (11/1) (E/W)
(0-11 on turf when down the field at Ascot the last day, the ground could’ve been against then though and from a decent draw here could get involved.)
NAP: Idaho – 3.35
NB: Ghostwatch – 4.35
