Newbury Spring Trials Meeting. Day 1. (Friday)

Spring Trials Meeting Day 1

Friday 20th April 2018

It’s the Spring Trials Meeting this Friday & Saturday over at Newbury and it’s a meeting i’m personally a big fan of. You see a lot of potential smart performers start their seasons off here for a lot of big yards. Here are my fancies for this Friday’s card….

1.50 – Glory Fighter (5/1) (E/W) (Jockey: G Mosse – Trainer: C Hills)

(Well Done Fox looks the most likely winner here but as he’s odds on i’ll try and take him on with Glory Fighter. He looks to be a speedy one on pedigree and could well get involved here on debut.)

2.25 – Qaysar (3/1) (Jockey: L Dettori – Trainer: R Hannon)

(Won very nicely the last day at Kempton despite being under a penalty. He could well improve again here and go very close. Frankie Dettori on board. Nobleman’s Nest could be one to look out for at a bigger price.)

3.00 – Lah Ti Dar (3/1) (Jockey: L Dettori – Trainer: J H M Gosden)

(A sister to the smart So Mi Dar for the same powerful connections this one comes here with a fair reputation. Her Dam has already won several Group 1’s over this kind of trip this term and this yard has targeted this race with smart prospects in many a recent year coming out on top four times since 2010. Likely to give a bold showing.)

3.35 – Blue De Vega (10/1) (Jockey: O Murphy – Trainer: R M H Cowell)

(Formerly a smart performer but appears to of lost his way in higher level contests. First time in a handicap though here and has more than enough ability to be competitive if on a going day.)

4.05 – Golden Birthday (11/4) (Jockey: F Berry – Trainer: H Fry)

(Won three times in a row last season on the flat, returned with quite a modest effort the last day but he could well build on that here and go a lot closer. Stable form is the slight concern.)

4.35 – Tigre Du Terre (11/4) (Jockey: R L Moore – Trainer: R Hannon)

(Has ran respectably in defeat in Listed Contests since debut win and got beat the last day by a smart looking sort at Kempton. Likely to build on that here but will need to be pretty sharp to go close.)

5.05 – Always A Drama (7/1) (E/W) (Jockey: W Buick – Trainer: C Hills)

(Releated to a few decent winners including Endless Drama who won a Group 2 over this distance. Yard won this last year and could get involved.)

NAP: Lah Ti Dar – 3.00

NB: Qaysar – 2.25
