Newmarket Craven Meeting. Day 2. (Wednesday)

Craven Meeting Day 2

We saw some great racing on Day 1 of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket and it’s gets better as we move onto Day 2 of the meeting with the Earl Of Sefton and Nell Gwynn taking centre stage. Here are my fancies….

1.50 – Danielsflyer (14/1) (E/W) (Jockey: B Curtis – Trainer: D Barron)

(Recently gelded and has been dropping down the weights after a run of defeats. Could go well at a price.)

2.25 – Hey Jonesy (6/1) (E/W) (Jockey: K Stott – Trainer: K Ryan)

(Put in some very decent runs last term and could well be hard to catch here. Just edges Nebo out as my pick.)

3.00 – Earl Of Sefton Stakes (Group 3)

Robin Of Navan (5/1) (E/W) (Jockey: J Doyle – Trainer: H Dunlop)

(Not the most consistent of sorts but does have talent and could go well if on a going day.)

3.35 – Landwade Stud Nell Gwynn Stakes  (Class 1) (Group 3) (7f)

The Nell Gwynn is one of the feature contests on Day Two of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket on Wednesday and it’s a Group 3 contest that’s ridden over seven furlongs.

It’s an ultra competitive affair of which you could  make a case for the majority of the field with the market principles all being very close to one another in the betting.

Altyn Orda is at the head of affairs for Roger Varian and Champion Jockey Silvestre De Sousa. All three of his runs have come at Newmarket which saw him claim a Group 3 contest when last seen here. If reproducing that kind of form she’s likely to be involved once again.

The Charlie Appleby yard is currently on fire and he sends Solioquy here who’s a best priced 5/1. She won a much lower grade contest when last seen and will need to improve a fair amount but you’d be foolish to rule her out.

The one I’m going to take a chance on here is THREADING for Mark Johnston and James Doyle. She was ultimately disappointing the last day when finishing seventh when favourite for the Group 1 Cheveley Park here but she looked impressive before that and I think she could well bounce back here.

4.10 – Hard Forest (15/8) (Jockey: L Dettori – Trainer: M Johnston)

(Ran a decent race the last day in a valuable contest at Newcastle. Likely to build on that here and experience could play a big role.)

4.45 – Award Winning (3/1) (Jockey: R L Moore – Trainer: J H M Gosden)

(Expensive purchase for top connections and could well go very close here on debut. Ryan Moore up.)

5.20 – Sea Of Class (11/8) (Jockey: J Doyle – Trainer: W J Haggas)

(Another one who looks very appealing on paper. Related to some smart sorts and could well go very close.)

5.55 – Old Persian (5/2) (Jockey: W Buick – Trainer: C Appleby)

(Was disappointing when last out but if returning to the form of 1m win here she should be a big player.)

NAP: Robin Of Navan – 3.00

NB: Sea Of Class – 5.20
