Aintree Grand National Festival 2018. Preview & Selections. (Friday)

Friday 13th April 2018

1.45 – Alder Hey Children’s Charity Handicap Hurdle  (Class 1) (Grade 3) (2m 4f)

EAMON AN CRONIC – (12/1) (E/W)

(Found the trip at Cheltenham the last day too testing and is a decent performer on his day at this level and trip. Could get involved at a decent price.)

2.20 – Top Novices Hurdle (Class 1) (Grade 1)

(Looks one with real potential and has been  impressive so far. A bold showing looks likely)

SCARLET DRAGON (8/1) (E/W) – BEDROCK (40/1) (E/W)

(Scarlet Dragon a smart performer on the Flat and ran a cracking race the last day despite being free. He’s my each way pick here, Bedrock worth a look at huge odds as he ran a great race for new yard the last day and has ran well in decent company. Both good each way options and found it hard to pick just one of them.)

2.50 – Mildmay Novices Chase  (Class 1) (Grade 1) (3m 2f)

(Impressive sort that ran a good race at Cheltenham behind Shattered Love. Should go close if handling the trip)

3.25 JLT Melling Chase  (Class 1) (Grade 1)  (2m 3f)

Politologue was very unlucky here last year and has performed well many top grade contests this year. He’s likely to give his running and has got enough ability to be challenging.

If Balko Des Flos brings his brilliant Ryanair performance here where he easily picked off Un De Sceaux he’ll be extremely hard to beat.

I’ll just side with MIN though. He’ll have to be at his best to win this but I think he’s got more than enough ability to step up to the plate.

MIN – (11/10)

4.05 – Topham Handicap Chase  (Class 1) (Grade 3) (2m 5f)

POLIDAM – (12/1) (E/W)

(Ran a decent recent race the last day at Leopardstown and does know how to win big field handicaps. Had wind op which may spark life into him too.)

4.40 – Sefton Novices Hurdle  (Class 1) (Grade 1) (3m 1f)

SANTINI – (9/4)

(A bit one paced the last day at Cheltenham. Still a smart performer and might well handle this track better and put on a bold showing.)

5.15 – Wetherbys National Hunt Flat Race  (Class 1) (Grade 2)

(Won very well last time at Kempton. Bypassed Cheltenham specifically for this and is likely to go very close.)

PYM – (7/1) (E/W)

(Beaten comfortably  by Danny Kerwin the last day but was giving weight away. May well of come on for that and could improve here.)

NAP: Global Citizen – 2.20

NB: Danny Kerwin – 5.15
