All Weather Championships Finals Day
Friday 30th March 2018
1.30 – All Weather Championships Apprentice Handicap (Class 2) (7f)
The Apprentice Handicap kicks things off on Finals Day at Lingfield its an extremely competitive Class 2 contest that’s ridden over seven furlongs.
You could make a case for the majority of the field but I’ve managed to narrow it down for my selection here and that comes in the form of SILENT ECHO. He won a maiden over course and distance here and shaped well the last day despite not getting a run. If getting a clearer passage he could well go close here. Ben Robinson takes the ride.
SILENT ECHO – 6/1 (E/W) –
2.00 – All Weather Championships Marathon (Class 2) (2m)
The Marathon is the next race up and it doesn’t get any less competitive here either. Lot’s of form horses find themselves at the top of the market here none more so than the likes of Red Verdon and Watersmeet.
The one i’m going to side with here though is the French raider FUNNY KID. He ran a nice race the last day on the polytrack over at Wolverhampton and I think that was the perfect run as preparation for a tilt at this. The form has been franked from that race also, Maxime Guyon takes the ride in the famous Solow colous and this one is a general 4/1 chance.
FUNNY KID – 4/1 –
2.30 – All Weather Championships Fillies & Mares (Class 2) (7f)
The Fillies and Mares contest is up next which is a Class 2 contest thats ridden over seven furlongs.
The one I like here is SUMMER ICON for Mick Channon. She’s been behind today’s rival Zest a couple of times over a mile however ran well behind Second Thought the last day at Wolverhampton. A repeat of that run would see her going very close here.
SUMMER ICON – 11/2 (E/W) –
3.05 – All Weather Championships Sprint (Class 2) (6f)
Moving onto the sprint contest now which is again a Class 2 affair this time over six furlongs.
The horse I like here is a horse that i’ve been a fan of for some time and that’s GIFTED MASTER. I was delighted to see him return to form last season following a gelding operation when a couple of Listed contests including one here over course and distance. If tuned up he may well put on another bold showing here.
GIFTED MASTER – 11/4 –
3.40 – All Weather Championships 3 Year Old Contest (Class 2) (6f)
It’s the three year old contest next which is a Class 2 contest ridden over six furlongs.
Just like the previous race the horse I’m siding with here is one I’m big fan of and that’s CORINTHIA KNIGHT. He’s been in superb form of late and there’s no reason why another big run can’t be seen.
CORINTHIA KNIGHT – 15/8
4.10 – All Weather Championships Mile (Class 2) (1m)
The Mile is the penultimate race of Finale Day at Lingfield and it’s thrown up a fairly hot renewal.
The one I will be siding with here is SECOND THOUGHT. He’s unbeaten on the All Weather and looked in great form when winning the last day.
SECOND THOUGHT – 6/4 –
4.40 – All Weather Championships Middle Distance Classic (Class 2) (1m 2f)
The final race on All Weather Championships Finale Day is the 4.40 contest that is the Class 2 Middle Distance contest that’s ridden over a mile and two furlongs. It’s an extremely competitive affair which has the market principals all very close to one another in the betting.
Two horses in particular that stand out at the top of the market are Master The World and Mr Owen. Both of these horse battled it out at the death in the Winter Derby with Mr Owen ending up being first past the post, however it was Master The World that was later given the race in the Stewards Room after the major interference caused close home by Mr Owen. Both of these horses have leading claims for this contest following the runs that day and are both generally trading at around the 4/1 mark.
Utmost for John Gosden also took his pace in the Winter Derby he looked very dangerous when dominating the Winter Derby Trial however wasn’t so effective when tackling the Derby itself but it’s still likely that he has a lot of progressing in him. He’s a general 7/1 chance and Andrea Atzeni takes the ride.
Star Archer is an interesting runner for Hugo Palmer. I was there when he won at Wolverhampton in impressive style but failed to follow up the last day when at short odds. His price is subsequently considerably bigger today for this contest but he is however reunited with Josephine Gordon who he seems to get along well with. He may well make a bold bid and sneak into the frame.
The one I’m going to side with here though is VICTORY BOND for William Haggas. He’s performed very well throughout the winter on the All Weather where he’s got a few victories to his name as well as a couple of placed efforts in Listed contests. He was beaten by Utmost the last day when favourite but I think he may well go one better this time around, James Doyle takes the ride and he can be found trading
at around the 9/2 mark.
