3.35 Ascot Chase (Class 1) (Grade 1) (2m 5f)
This is one of, if not the race of the year here at Ascot in this renewal of the Ascot Chase. A whole host of big guns young and old look to take each other on in what looks to be a cracker.
Top Notch is currently heading affairs for Nicky Henderson and looks to set the standard here on current form. Coney Island is the interesting one the Irish Raider, he comes here with bags of potential but the stable form may be a concern. Cue Card last year’s winner will need to be back to his all time best in my opinion or at least close to it if he’s to get involved.
The one i’m siding with here is WAITING PATIENTLY for Ruth Jefferson. I’m a huge fan of this horse and think there’s still loads of progressing to come. He was brilliant the last day at Kempton and a repeat of that run will see him very hard to beat here in my opinion.
WAITING PATIENTLY – 9/4 –
Grand National Trial Handicap Chase (Class 1) (Grade 3) (3m 4f)
The Grand National Trial takes centre stage at Haydock this Saturday afternoon and it’s headed by Blaklion for Nigel Twiston-Davies as he looks to go on for another tilt at the big one at Aintree at April. He comes off the back off an outstanding performance in the Becher at Aintree and a repeat of that would obviously see him hard to beat here.
Blaklion does have a lot of weight to slug around here though in these typically desperate conditions and the one i’m going to side with who should love them is WILD WEST WIND for Tom George. He had a bad fall the last day in the Welsh National and needs to put that behind but if he does I think he could be a huge player here.
WILD WEST WIND – 5/1 EW –
1.15 – Dame De Comapgnie – 5/2
3.30 – Waiting Patiently – 9/4
2.40 – Markov – 11/8
3.15 – Wild West Wind 5/1 EW
3.10 – Lagostovegas – 7/4
