Meydan Preview & Selections. (18/01/2018)

Thursday 18th January 2018

I’m one of the rarer types that actually prefers the Flat to the Jumps so I always enjoy the Winter Festival over at Meydan. It throws up some great races and great horses on different surfaces, as well as seeing some familiar names from these shores past and present. Here are my fancies for Thursday for anyone that’s interested…

2.30 – Rayya (11/10) (Jockey: P J Dobbs – Trainer: D Watson)

(This one was electrifying on her debut over C&D in a fillies maiden contest when winning by over 10 lengths. I think there’s a lot more to come from her on this track, albeit she’s not much of a price but I fancy her to follow up that debut success and look forward to following her progress in races to come.)

3.40 – Rodaini (14/1) (E/W) (Jockey: S De Sousa – Trainer: S Crisford)

(I’m taking a chance here with this one, a smart performer at two and was decent enough last term running in decent quality contests. Encouraging pedigree for dirt so might be worth chancing each way at big price.)

4.15 – Light The Lights (3/1) (Jockey: C Soumillon – Trainer: M F De Kock)

(Hasn’t really featured in Group company over here yet but did win a Group 2 over in South Africa in 2016. He’s back down in class though today and over this trip I feel he can and should really be making his presence felt.)

4.50 – Murrab (11/10) (Jockey: Jim Crowley – Trainer: A Al Rayhi)

(Real tough sort who’s found Reynaldothewizard hard to beat in this last few running’s of this. I’m going to side with him to get the better of him this time though as he seemed to return to form the last day. Hasn’t got the best of relationships with Crowley as he’s 0-4 with him is a perhaps a minor concern.)

6.00 – Dream Castle (4/1) (Jockey: P Cosgrave – Trainer: S bin Suroor)

(I saw Dream Castle make his debut at Doncaster last year in smart style and despite performing respectably in decent contests throughout the year he’s proved to be a bit frustrating. He’s got bags of ability though and hopefully he’ll start to mature. Wide draw to deal with but could prove to be slightly ahead of his current mark)
