Bet Victor Gold Cup Preview (Cheltenham)

Bet Victor Gold Cup (2m 4f) (Class 1) (Grade 3) (Handicap Chase)

It’s one of my favourite meetings of the National Hunt season this week and that’s the Open Meeting at Cheltenham. Well, that’s what it was called but we aren’t allowed to call it that now that apparently as it upsets the golf world. Just in case anyone mistakes Cause Of Causes for Rory McIlroy.

Onto the big race of the three day meeting none other than the Bet Victor Gold Cup i’ve picked out a couple of early fancies that I like ahead of the action. I was left heartbroken in this contest last year following tipping up Village Vic at a decent price to see him just ran out of it by Tarquin Du Seuil close home.

There’s a whole host of this field that still might not turn up here so i’d advise as I always do with midweek previews for weekend racing, if you are punting early doors look to do so with Non Runner No Bet firms so you don’t get stung via withdrawals.

Moving onto the selections themselves the first one I like here is STARCHITECT for David Pipe. He comes here off on the back off a win in his reappearance run a couple of weeks a go and looks to be in good order following some very decent efforts in hot contests last season. He’ll get the conditions he likes here and shouldn’t have any real concerns at all surrounding the race. He’s best priced of around 10/1 and i’m confident he should go well.

The second selection that I like here is GUITAR PETE for Nicky Richards. This horse seems to of been around forever but he’s still amazingly only a seven year old. He’d lost his way a bit following some big runs in hot races in his younger days but since transferring to Nicky he’s started to perform more like his old self culminating in him getting his nose back in front last time out in a decent race. He comes into this off a really low weight and will likely have a further few pounds taken off by a conditional which is an obvious plus. He’s no stranger to this track and at an appealing price of a general 25/1 he might well be worth taking a chance on him continuing his upwards curve.
