Unibet Hurdle (Class 1) (Grade 2) (1m 7f)
It took me a while to decide which race to do the main preview on this week as there is such an array of options to choose from but i’ve chosen the Unibet Hurdle at Wincanton as the place to go as this is the race i’ve got the strongest fancy in.
Lough Derg Spirit for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville seems to be at the head of affairs as he comes here off the back of a generally successful campaign last time around before being pulled up at Aintree last time out and has gone well fresh before so is an obvious danger.
Cour de Lion will come here fit and raring to go after a spell on the flat throughout the summer where he ran admirably in big handicaps placing in several of them. But I have a fairly strong fancy here and that comes in the form of CHARBEL for Kim Bailey and David Bass. He comes here off the back of runs in huge races last campaign where he fell in the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival when seemingly travelling well and asking quite a bit of Altior. He was however slightly disappointing when looking a bit laboured at Aintree the time after. He goes really well fresh though and in my opinion is the stand out class horse in the race. He’s still trading at around 4/1 in places which I think is a great price and personally I can see him going off a lot shorter.
CHARBEL – 4/1 (Jockey: David Bass – Trainer: Kim Bailey)
