Now this is a hard card. Good grief. Anything that features a race with three different 7/1 favourites is going to be an endurance test of a day. But I’ll try my best to find something, could be a massive mistake this. If you have any free bets, this is the card to use them on…
I’ll start off with the 1.50 which is a handicap hurdle, and its said race with three market principles each trading at around 7/1 each. It’s a big field this of which all 20 odd of them have a chance. My pick would be an each way chance of Harry Fry’s Minella Awards, Noel Fehily takes the ride and this horse has some decent form to his name. Placed in a couple of Class 3 events when in the, granted the first was in 2015 and was for Nicky Henderson but he’s still very lightly raced and might come on for his last run when finishing 3rd. Trading at 15/2, he’s my each way selection for this.
The 2.25 next a three mile handicap chase which is headed by 10/3 chance Shanroe Santos. He gets favoritism on the back of a win at Warwick last time out but i’ll be looking to take him on here and two horses have caught my eye out of another testing line up. Firstly Jonjo O’Neils Upswing who’s form reads pretty shockingly but he’s back down in the weights to only a pound higher than when he last won and certainly needs considering off this mark having Group 3 experience to his name. Aidan Coleman rides and currently trades at 7/1. The second of these two is Colin Tizzards Fourth Act. He was a creditable 4th in two Group 3’s back in the Autumn and a repeat of that form might make him a decent each way shout at 8/1. Paddy Brennan rides.
The 3.00 is a 1m 7f handicap hurdle and is headed by Nicky Hendersons Fixe Le Kap at 5/1. He hasn’t been seen since finishing 8th in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival last year and it does seem quite a tall order for him to come back from after a year and take this, he may well do or get in the placings at least but i’m looking to take him on here with Kerry Lee’s Gassin Golf. Apprentice Richard Patrick rides taking seven pounds off and this horse made a decent return to action when second then fifth in a Class 3 and Class 2 before falling in a Group 3 last time out and a repeat of them placing efforts might be enough to see him get up there in this off a handy mark. Trades at around 8/1.
3.35 is a National Hunt flat race and is headed by 5/2 shot Cap Soleil. He won a listed event last time out at Cheltenham and a repeat of that performance would probably be enough for him to go close again here but my selection in this would be Willie Mullins raider Redhotfillypeppers. She won her bumper under this rider last time and is potentially fairly useful as she did have an entry in the Mares Novice race at this year’s Cheltenham Festival. She currently trades at around 10/3. Mullins also won this race back in 2015.
