Cheltenham Open Meeting 2016

The jumps is well and truly back to the delight of most and there is a few big names gearing up for a run at the Open Meeting this weekend. It actually kicked off today with a quite tough card. The arguably biggest name on the card today was Barters Hill who had been 7/7 before finishing 4th at the Festival back in March. He was sent off the 6/4 favourite however was pulled up with David Bass feeling something a miss. O O Seven went on to take the contest comfortably by about 10 lengths. The first race of tomorrow’s card at the Open is somewhat of a two horse race on paper with Wealth De Mottes and Defu Du Seil, i’d probably choose the Phil Hobbs charge between the two with Barry Geraghty on board. I’d also be inclined to have an each way chance on Nick Williams’s Diable De Sivola at around 9/1 with Lizzie Kelly on board. 2nd and 3rd beaten favourite last two starts but still a decent price I feel. The next race is more or less a formality with Thistlecrack the 1/6 favourite. He should demolish this field with minimal fuss at all. Next up is the 1.50 Grade 3 Handicap Chase and my fancy for this is Beg To Differ. Currently trading at around 11/1 he’s still unexposed and at a decent mark to take this. Noel Fehily rides for the Jonjo O’Neil. Its the Gold Cup Chase next and is headed by the impressive More Of That, 3rd at the Festival in March he’s the top weight for this but is still my selection. I think he’s better than these and can defy top weight at around 9/2. There is a listed hurdle race next headed by 7/1 shot Will O’ The West, he traveled very nice last time around here before finishing 3rd and might be a nice price at 7’s whilst still quite well treated in the weights. For this however I fancy TheEagleHasLanded despite being on the heavy side he had a decent campaign last season and I feel 12/1 might be an extremely good each way price. Jack Sherwood rides for Paul Nicholls. I’ll be going for another Paul Nicholls horse in the 3.35 in Black Corton. Nich Scholfield rides and this horse is in great form with figures of 231311, he trades at around 8/1 and again I think that’s a great price.4225
