Following the 1/7 defeat of Order Of St George at the Curragh to 10/1 shot Wicklow Brave in the Irish Leger Stakes are there some serious questions hanging over Ryan Moore’s head? I personally think so. This isn’t a one off, as this season Moore has raised eyebrows with some questionable rides on high class O’Brien horses. On several occasions it has been suggested that quality horses have dug him out of a mess of bad positioning, Order Of St George being one of these when winning from an unpromising position at Ascot earlier in the season. Another hold up ride on the extremely short priced favourite saw the 1/7 shot unable to reel in the prominently ridden Wicklow Brave, hats off to Frankie Dettori who clearly enjoyed the win. Will Moore’s position be under review with AP O’Brien? Probably not. But if a few more of these situations arise, it will certainly be interesting.
Ryan Moore.
